Understand the Confusion, Reconnect With Your Body, and Reclaim Your Desire
Why don’t I want Sex?
You’ve spent so long trying to figure out what to do with sex. Having gotten so many conflicting messages while growing up left you unclear what you should be wanting. You've been taught to be beautiful, agreeable, and sexy. You've also heard don't be too easy, don't want it too much, don't get used.
Underneath all of it is the same fear: being judged, whichever way you turn.
Now you're expected to engage in sex freely and enthusiastically, with the very same body you were taught to keep guarded. And it might be further complicated by unexplained pain, hormonal shifts, changes after having a baby, or a traumatic past experience that still lives in your body during sex. It could also be shaped by never having had a sexual experience that met what you needed and or feeling relaxed enough to experience pleasure. In all of these situations, you may have simply organized around what your partner wants instead of sorting things out, which can leave you unmotivated to figure any of it out. You may have arrived here questioning why you even need to be having sex, because all of it leaves you feeling exhausted, resentful, or just plain uninterested.
This isn't something you've ever felt safe saying out loud, to anyone, because it seems like everyone else has figured it out.
Therapy might be the answer if you find yourself here…
You've tried to perform what you thought pleasure looked and sounded like
You dread your partner's cue that it's time to meet his needs
You have no idea how to orgasm and think you are broken and missing the pleasure chip
You experience pain during penetrative sex
Something happened in your past and it lives in your body now during sex
Your body changed after pregnancy, loss, or menopause and sex hasn't felt right since
You're Not Broken
However you got here, whether it's the messages you absorbed, your relationship, pain, or something from your past, none of it makes you broken. Low or absent desire isn't a dysfunction. It's a response to years of not being centered in your own experience.
Therapy can help you change this.
In Sex Therapy for Women, you will build the capacity to:
Understand the mix that shaped your feelings about sex, the messages you absorbed, your past experiences, and the relational dynamics involved
Separate what was imposed on you from what's actually yours
Notice sensation and pleasure in your own body, instead of monitoring performance
Talk openly about pain or past experiences you've never had a safe place to say out loud
Communicate your desire, or the lack of it, without shame
Identify sexual themes and interests that are genuinely yours
Therapy Can Help You Stop Performing and Start Experiencing
